Erdem's style tips for men

We ask Erdem Moralioglu for his tips on getting dressed.

Here at ELLE we may focus on women's style but that doesn't make us immune to a well-dressed man. And we can't help but notice that Erdem Moralioglu, beloved of fashion fans everywhere thanks to his stunning floral dresses, has impeccable taste when it comes to his own wardrobe. So, in the interest of helping some of the men in our lives with their sartorial dilemmas, we put a few questions to the designer to find out his secrets to gettting dressed.

How do you approach your personal style?

I’m attracted to things that are quite colourful and preppy. Growing up in North America, at high school you were either ‘Prep’ or a ‘Jock’, being a ‘Jock’ just wasn’t an option for me.

Do you have an inspiration, trend or look in mind?

I love the way David Hockney dresses. He is a great inspiration as how to dress as a man – chic, colourful, happy.

Which labels do you wear?

I love Dries Van Noten for menswear and Yves Saint Laurent for shoes. Generally speaking though, I stick to my uniform which consists mainly of J.Crew and Sperry boat shoes.

Men’s trend for next season?

I hate trends. I wear whatever’s clean.
